Governments

Nations across the world need trade and there is no country that is totally self-sufficient.

While come countries are rich in natural resources they may lack the technological capabilities to capitalise on these resources in the best possible manner.

Some countries have knowledge and/or human capital but may lack the currency to put these to good use.

Other countries have great agricultural bases but they lack the ability to meet a growing demand for technical innovation and run the risk of not being able to compete against more aggressive foreign competition.

In all of these examples, trade provides a very important avenue to capitalise on a countries strengths to leverage new opportunities.
